Nuclear Power: Knick – a reliable partner for over 50 years

Nuclear power plants reliably generate power and can make an important contribution to achieving the climate targets. One topic in particular repeatedly takes center stage in the debate around nuclear power: plant safety. It primarily depends on the safety-related instrumentation & control systems – I&C for short – of nuclear power plants. The signal conditioners and transducers used in them must be highly accurate and robust, and have long-term stability. For decades, Knick has offered certified solutions for nuclear plants that meet the specifications of internationally recognized safety standards.

Safety has top priority

In nuclear power plants, safety has top priority. After all, potential risks like material fatigue or even human error can lead to serious consequences for humans and the environment in the worst-case scenario. To detect danger early on and systematically counter it, safety-related measurement and control loops are implemented in nuclear power plants. They continuously monitor critical plant parameters since even the smallest deviations could indicate a malfunction. This is why measured values must be precisely recorded and reliably transmitted to the relevant safety systems – even under extreme ambient conditions. Certified measurement solutions are required that guarantee high functional safety.

For the past 50 years, Knick transducers and signal conditioners have fulfilled the expectations of nuclear power plant operators for their monitoring solutions. The quality and reliability of Knick products are the result of many factors, including consistent quality management in accordance with ISO 9001. Knick also supports other QM systems in accordance with KTA 1401 and ISO 19443. Compliance with these standards emphasizes our high expectations for safety and precision in the manufacture of safety-related measuring technology.

Why Knick?
For over 50 years, Knick has supplied transducers and signal conditioners for nuclear power plants. In addition to temperature transmitters, the range includes standard and isolated signal conditioners, signal multipliers, and AC and DC transducers. These are approved for use in safety-related measurement and control loops in nuclear power plants on the basis of type tests according to KTA 3503 or KTA 3505. Knick supports a QM system in accordance with ISO 9001 and a system for nuclear power applications in accordance with KTA 1401 and ISO 19443.

Application highlight: Certified measurement solutions and signal multiplication in nuclear power plants

Temperature monitoring plays a key role in the efficiency and safety of nuclear power plants. The certified measurement solutions from Knick guarantee that temperature data are accurately recorded and processed. This enables critical operating states to be detected and prevented early on. Thanks to connection options for all conventional thermocouples and resistance thermometers, the temperature transmitters can also be deployed flexibly within the plant.

Signal multipliers enable galvanically isolated signal transmission to multiple safety systems of the nuclear power plant that must remain isolated from each other. Knick also supplies solutions that meet the stringent requirements of international safety standards – and route signals without interference or distortion.
