Liquid Analysis Made Easy - CHEManager

Trends in process analytics in the CHEManager
In the CHEManager – a German journal for chemistry and life science – Dr Volker Oestreich interviews Dr Dirk Steinmüller, Vice President Business Development at Knick in Berlin, about trends regarding process analytics.
Often, the major manufacturers of automation technology dominate the discussions regarding industrial trends. However, topics such as digitization, Industry 4.0 and IoT are also challenges that influence modern liquid analysis. “Knick focuses on providing good, reliable data about the process, including diagnostic data on their own devices and sensors. Modeling in the sense of big data is useless unless the model can access good data. Undoubtedly, Ethernet-based interfaces will become more important. In the field of process engineering / chemistry, however, the problem of explosion protection has not yet been solved completely. “
With Memosens we bring digital technology into the sensor
The digital sensor technology solves many of the common problems encountered in liquid analysis and is used for the measurement of pH / ORP, conductivity and dissolved oxygen. Our users benefit particularly from the interference-free coupling, the use of pre-calibratable sensors, intelligent diagnostics and predictive maintenance, and finally mobility.

Dr Steinmüller is convinced that the topic of “prediction” – in terms of a sensor’s lifetime – will become more important with the fast-paced developments in process technology that are observable: “Certainly there will be a development regarding communication interfaces – Ethernet IP, Profinet or OPC UA. But the first thing that comes to my mind is that it will be interesting to see if they will work directly on the sensor or 1 or 2 levels of architecture above.”
